McEwen Stakes

The McEwen Stakes is a Group Three horserace held every September at Melbourne’s Moonee Valley Racecourse. Open to three-year-olds and above, the McEwen Stakes is a weight for age event which takes place over the sprint distance of 1000 metres. Offering $200,000 in prizemoney, the McEwen Stakes was named in honour of the Moonee Valley Racing Club secretary Ian McEwen.

Traditionally the McEwen Stakes draws in strong sprinters and is held on the Freehand Stakes Day. Other features taking place alongside the McEwen Stakes are the Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) and the Group Two WH Stocks Stakes (1600m).
