John McNair’s smart sprinter Hay List continued their super consistent form on Saturday as the five-year-old scored a comprehensive victory in the Group 3 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley.
Statue Of Liberty gelding Hay List ($2.50) went out as the pronounced favourite in the 2010 McEwen Stakes and was never threatened on the home run as they made up for a slow start to beat the Mark Kavanagh-trained Catapulted ($5.50) by a length with Reward For Effort ($4.60) a further length away again in third.
Sportsbet will have the best odds for Hay List in the Manikato Stakes on Sept 24
The McEwen was Hay List’s first Victorian start, the speedy galloper now having won 10 of their 12 career starts with the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) under the lights at Moonee Valley on September 24 now a real possibility.
During a cracker day of racing at Moonee Valley on Saturday two other Group features were decided.
In the marqee race, Whobegotyou claimed victory in the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) beating Typhoon Tracy and Shoot Out, while the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) saw a shock result as Avienus won.
