A notable performer in major two-year-old events through the 2014 Autumn Carnival, trainer Peter Morgan has revealed talented filly Eloping is a chance of lining up for the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 6th.
Securing an impressive record of four wins and one minor place from just eight competitive race starts so far, Eloping has not been seen at the races since making a brief trip to Brisbane to contest the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) on May 10th; a race for which she finished fourth.
Yet to settle on a specific path for the Choisir filly this time in, Morgan said he has been thrilled with Eloping’s career thus far, and is confident of an even greater preparation through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, including a possible tilt at the McEwen Stakes.
“I think that she is still the same,” Morgan told Sky Racing HQ.
“She trialled a fortnight ago and we were very happy with her trial and she has done well since.
“Her coat is just starting to come out and she hasn’t had a setback at all this prep.
“She is a good horse to train, she doesn’t give any bother, she eats her feed all the time and she goes out and does her work.
“She is just a dream to train.
“She is a chance,” Morgan said of the McEwen Stakes.
“We haven’t quite decided yet, there is a three-year-old race on the same day for her, and we are just going to wait during the week to see where we want to go.”
Securing back-to-back victories in her first two race starts, including the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) on January 25th, Eloping staked her claims as a serious contender when finishing second to standout filly Earthquake in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 8th.
Running on to finish fourth amongst classy competition in the Listed Sports 1000 (1000m) on March 1st, the filly out of Runaway Jesse returned to the winner’s circle in the Gold Rush (1000m) at Bendigo before placing a fighting seventh in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 5th; winning the Group 3 Royal Randwick Stakes (1200m) in her only other start prior to the Champagne Classic.
