Chautauqua ($2.20) is undoubtedly the class horse of the 2015 McEwen Stakes field and remains outright favourite in betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Flamberge, Kuro and three-year-old Furnaces; currently sharing the second line at $7 quotes.

Will Chautauqua return to racing for success in the 2015 McEwen Stakes or will one of his talented rivals post an upset at Moonee Valley this weekend?

Kuro ($7)

Kuro has been transferred to the care of Lee and Anthony Freedman for his 2015 Spring Carnival campaign and should relish the conditions of the 2015 McEwen Stakes first-up this weekend. Posting a commendable six wins and four minors through only 13 competitive starts, the Denman entire capped an impressive 2014 third in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m); returning this year for third in the Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m) before running a close second in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m). Having won the Listed Mick Dittman Plate (1200m) and finished third in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m) through the Brisbane Winter Carnival, Kuro figures as great value in 2015 McEwen Stakes markets.

Chautauqua ($2.20)

Group 1 champion Chautauqua is every chance of saluting in the McEwen Stakes but may be vulnerable first-up, particularly over 1000m. Returning this year for success in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m), the son of Encosta De Lago ran second to Brazen Beau in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) before breaking through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on Day 1 of The Championships. Having returned to the paddock after finishing third in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes, Chautauqua is a great chance for a first three finish on Saturday.

Flamberge ($7)

Flamberge is capable of brilliance on his day and is more than worth consideration for a McEwen Stakes bet at current odds. Running second to Chautauqua in the Rubiton Stakes upon resuming this year, the Exceed And Excel gelding progressed to third in the Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m) and while unable to figure in The Galaxy, returning to the paddock after charging home to win the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m).
